S: Standing on perch with both feet gripping it. Jumped to back and started footing for catch. Footing, biting, and trying to flare in hand. Turned and footed as soon as put back in cage.
O: Drew blood from L leg. Removed wrap over L wing and performed PT. Wing started with full ROM. Duoderm patch initially in place over wound but came off during radiographs. Good granulation tissue underneath and wound ~1/3 smaller than it was 2 days ago. Took rads of L wing and foot. Good callous seen over L ulna fx. NSF on feet. Placed on ground in exam room while wrap was off to see how used foot. Knuckling LD1 when set on ground, flew away and made it about half of room height up before hit wall and slid to ground. Started knuckling both D1s and flared and backed away. Footed for catch from ground and managed to puncture fully through glove with LD1. Replaced duoderm patch over dorsal L ulna wound and fabric wrap over L wing. L leg held clenched with foot tightly balled while wrap was changed. Started laser therapy on L leg per AD. Gave meds PO. Gabapentin: 0.09 cc (100 mg/ml compounded) PO Calcium Slurry: 1.24 cc (100 mg/ml) PO
A: NSF on rads of L leg/foot but still using abnormally. Abnormalities seem to be intermittent. Usually using LD1 when first caught, but then knuckling it when returned to cage after handling. L leg/foot clenching seen in hand today seems to be first time noted. Most likely trauma/nerve related, as lead level was low when checked. Strength in L foot is food when grabbing as was able to puncture leather casting glove.
P: Change fabric wrap E3D. Change duoderm patch in 6d with vet check. Perform laser therapy EOD on L leg. Upgrade catch level to red

O: Changed wing wrap on L wing - no bleeding seen, but started to ooze blood on the proximal aspect after gentle cleaning. Exposed muscle but looks healthy and moist. Skin in area still very friable, unable to suture anything in this area. Ulna fracture site feels like it is starting to stabilize, no crepitus felt. Very slight bowing in the wing at the fracture site from less than perfect alignment of the fractures, but does not feel severe enough to likely affect long term prognosis. Performed PT on wing, a little tight but able to get full extension. Covered wound on dorsal wing with duoderm gel, telfa/tegaderm. Took x-rays: mild displacement of fragments but there is enough overlap to expect healing without surgical intervention. Replaced figure-8 wrap. A: Depressed, borderline non-responsive in hand. Very atypical for species. Wounds appear static. Suspect rodenticide toxicity in addition to other issues, bird has had constant issues with clotting, is now bleeding from the mouth, has evidence of bruising from IM injections, and took a long time to stop leaking SQF despite applied pressure today.
P: Bandage change SID. rx 3D vit K IM BID, then 14D vit K PO BID. Monitor blood in mouth, swab PRN. Check temp again at PM tx

O: Bandage on back intact with minimal drainage. L dorsal wing bandage soaked through. Changed L wing bandage from under figure 8 wrap, cleaned w/ chlorohex and applied duoderm gel, covered w/ telfa/tegaderm. L figure 8 wrap intact. Applied tail guard. Gave oral meds and fluids. Retrieved 28g of scrap. Dropped 35g of pigeon.

A: Patient still QAR and was standing this morning. Minor inflammation in left eye, but not too much to warrant medication. L wing wound still bleeding a bit and bandage was completely soaked. Noted that bleeding is running between feather shafts. Will monitor bandage when caught for evening meds and determine if bandage changes need to be BID. Will give patient dose of IM vitamins for blood loss from L wing wound. Weight change: -5 g (1 %)
P: Monitor L wing bandage in evening, change bandage if soaked through. Rx iron and Vitamin B.

Leftovers: 32 S: Standing, walked to back of enclosure.
O: QAR. Heart sounds a little quiet, lungs clear. Changed bandage under wing wrap on L wing, removed some more matted feathers on wing and found additional wound sites most appear to be over the feather shafts and not the bone. Covered with duoderm gel, telfa and tegaderm. Left figure-8 wrap in place. Changed bandage over back. Cleaned wound, closed skin edges with staples and replaced bandage. Fresh blood around glottis, dried blood on roof of mouth. Drew blood from the R medial metatarsal vein. Flat fly was seen during exam, but able to spray bird with Adams in cage as bird just laid sternal in cage. Clean both wounds with chlorhex, applied duogel, covered with telfa and tegaderm. Placed figure 8 wrap on left wing.
A: Adult red shouldered hawk likely hit by car as found on side of road. Sustained left ulna fracture near elbow but is in good alignment and should heal with conservative management. Open wound on dorsal aspect of fracture site will need close attention and may require sutures after the tissue fully declares itself. Wound on back would also benefit from sutures. Bird is visual but does show signs of head trauma.
P: Rx Meloxicam, Tramadol starting tomorrow, pentoxifylline, baytril, Clavamox, calcium slurry, fluids. Change back bandage daily, change bandage on dorsal aspect of left wing daily without removing wrap if possible otherwise change wrap EOD with bandage change. If able to do bandage change without removing wrap, change wrap E3days. Collect blood, fecal, IOPs tomorrow. Repeat rads in a week.
